Obituary
Robert P. Palermo, 85, of Sugarloaf, known for his passion for family and commitment to “Always do the right thing”, passed away Tuesday morning at Geisinger Wyoming Valley surrounded by his family. Born in Hazleton in 1941, he was the son of the late Michael and Carrie Palermo.
Upon graduation from Hazleton High School, he joined the United States Army where he was a crew chief with the Recon Helicopter division at Fort Drum. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Robert was employed by Highway Equipment and Supply Company as the Senior Sales Manager. He was known for his strong work ethic and tenacity to always support his customers, doing whatever it takes. Bob was truly a man of his word; he was respected throughout the industry as the go to guy because of his extensive knowledge, determination and hands on approach. He was a Certified Senior Appraiser; his level of experience spanned from leading his team to negotiating sales throughout Pennsylvania and Globally.
He was an active member of many organizations including the Butler Township Zoning Board, Palermo Heart to Heart Foundation, Eckley Miners’ Village Board of Directors, EMARR president, as well as numerous others.
Bob loved the outdoors, from his early days fishing at Lake Irene and the Nescopeck creek, to his annual long weekend with his lifelong friends at Cannon Hole on the Pine Creek. He was an ardent trap shooter, his love for outdoors and hunting took him from the valleys and mountains of Pennsylvania to the peaks of the Pacific Northwest and the vast plains of Africa. He loved many types of sports and in particular the Philadelphia Eagles and Nittany lions. He had a passion for cooking for family and friends - his culinary passion will be forever remembered especially his elaborate tailgates.
Bob was committed to a family first attitude, having a love for his Italian heritage. He enjoyed attending and hosting family events and holidays, where connecting around the table with food and wine was a pillar of his life – his door was always open.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife the former Sandra (Frumkin) Palermo; brothers Joseph Palermo, Michael Palermo Jr.; and sisters Sylvia Balliet, Angeline Barth, Jean Tombasco.
Surviving are his children Robert Palermo and wife Stacie, Berwick, and Jessica Palermo and husband Michael Misleh, VA; grandchildren Allie, Geena, and Robbie; great grandchildren Beau, Nora, Reid; sisters Alice Kender, Doris Marsicano; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 6th, at the Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton from 5-8 P.M; Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 7th, at 11 A.M. at Good Shepherd Church, Drums where he was a member. His interment will be held privately at Calvary Cemetery, Drums.
It is the family’s intent to set up a charitable foundation in the name of Bob and Sandra Palermo. Donations would apply to supporting student scholarships in NE Pennsylvania area. - Guestbook
