      Thomas D. McCarthy, 87, a resident of the Laurels Senior Living passed early Thursday morning.  Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Thomas V. and Mildred (Colicigno) McCarthy.

      He was an Air Force Veteran and was a machinist at General Foam for 35 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

      Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife the former Mary Potance in 2017; and brothers Joseph and Patrick McCarthy.

      Surviving are his daughter Michele Fuller and husband Jeffrey, Wyoming, MI; sons Thomas McCarthy and wife Lynnette, Cypress, TX, and David McCarthy and wife Jennifer, Drums; grandchildren Jonathan Fuller, Casey Herrmann and husband Ryan, Eryn Tripp and husband Zach, Shane McCarthy, and David, Reilly, and Morgan McCarthy; great grandchildren Blayke and Wesley Herrmann; sisters Joan Beck and Mildred McCarthy; and several nieces and nephews.

      Funeral arrangements will be held privately. The joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, is in charge of the arrangements.

      Thomas, you have made your final flight into the wild blue yonder’s.  You are now relieved from your post.  A job well done fellow veteran.  America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom.  The final volley has sounded and taps is about to begin, ending a successful career as a nation’s defender.  Have a smooth flight airman.
