Carol Irene Sando Mangialetto, 88, entered her eternal rest at home, surrounded by family, on April 10, 2026, in Miami, Florida.

Born July 3, 1937, in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Carol was the oldest of four children of Anthony and Irene (Zimmerman) Sando. A graduate of Hazleton High School, she earned her Cosmetology License and a teaching degree from Empire College, taught cosmetology there, and later served as salon manager at Deisroth’s Department Store in Hazleton.

In May 1957, Carol met the love of her life, John “Joey” Mangialetto, on a blind date and they married the same year on November 28, at Mother of Grace Catholic Church in Hazleton. The couple opened and ran C & J’s Meat and Poultry Market until starting a family, with Carol dedicating herself to raising their three children and John working for the USPS and then ultimately the FAA. As John’s career progressed, the family moved to Atlanta, Key West, Maryville (TN), and finally Miami in 1977. When the family moved to Florida, Carol remained dedicated to raising her children while also working in management at Key West Hand Print Fabrics, the exclusive design and manufacturing source for Lilly Pulitzer textiles. Later, in Miami, she enjoyed a more than 20-year career in management at Jackson “J” Byron’s Department Store in Suniland Shopping Center, retiring in the late 90’s to spend more time with her family.

A devout Catholic, Carol has been a member of St. Louis Catholic Church since 1977 and was also active in The Life in the Spirit Ministry there. She served her parish in many ways, but was most beloved for the annual spaghetti dinner fundraisers, where she prepared her famous Italian meatballs and sauce for hundreds. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron at James Carnell Lodge #223.

Carol loved her family more than anything. She was a wonderful, devoted wife and mother, and above all, a hands-on, doting, nurturing “Grammy” whose love, care, and daily presence shaped the hearts and lives of her six adoring grandchildren.

Carol loved cooking and baking, reading, Bible study, shopping, fashion, and music. She loved the Miami warmth and sunshine.  She was a Miami Heat basketball fan and cheered on UM and FSU college football in solidarity with her grandkids. Holiday decorating and making her home warm and welcoming for family and friends brought her great joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Anthony Mangialetto; her parents, Anthony and Irene Sando; her parents-in-law, Leonardo and Rosina (Alban) Mangialetto; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Joan Sando; niece and brother-in-law, Kristen and Gabriel Puhak Sr.; God-daughter Colleen Donlin; and numerous other beloved relatives and in-laws.

She is survived by her son John Mangialetto Jr. and his children Alexa, Nicole, and John III of Miami; son Mark Mangialetto of Dunellon, FL, his children Danielle of Stamford, CT and Nicolas of West Palm Beach, FL; daughter Angela Mangialetto Caplin, her husband Todd, and their son Jett of Miami; sisters Elizabeth Puhak of Harrisburg, PA and Sandra Sabo (John) of Freeland, PA and many beloved nieces, nephews, family members and in-laws.

Carol— Mom—Grammy— is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all whose lives were touched by her beautiful spirit. She lives on forever, in our hearts and cherished memories.
