Obituary
Mauro was a 1954 graduate of Hazleton High School. After graduation he served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Upon leaving the service, Mauro returned to Hazleton and married his high school sweetheart, Lillie (Dragonette). He spent his career as a sales representative and was co-owner of an Orange Julius franchise in the Wyoming Valley Mall, Wilkes-Barre PA.
Mauro was an active high school reunion committee co-chairperson. He was instrumental in planning and organizing the Class of 1954 reunions and events. He continued to do so until their 65th class reunion in 2019. He was also an active member of the Hazleton Lions Club and served as past president.
Mauro was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved attending local basketball and football games and had a passion for Penn State Football. He was lovingly known as “Penn State Pop” by his great grandson. He also enjoyed a weekly card game with his buddies. More than anything else, Mauro loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife the former Lillie Dragonette, siblings; Elizabeth Boyle, Appolonia Mayernick, Frank Cabell and Frederick Cabell.
Surviving are his daughter, Lisa Valentine (Brian), Drums; son, Mauro Cabell (Maria), Easton; daughter, Judi Kunkle (Brian), Weatherly; grandchildren, Brian (Britany); Dominic; Nicholas; Laura (Michael); Evan; and Lilli; great-grandsons, Bryce and Blake, great granddaughter, Sophia; and several nieces and nephews.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 15th, at 10 A.M. at Our Lady of Peace Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hazleton. Burial will be in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery following the mass. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 14th, at the Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton from 1-4 P.M. -
