George W. “Butchie” Bakos, 78, of Hazleton, passed away Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazleton.  Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late George and Jennie Black, and was raised by his grandmother the late Grace Black.  He was a member of Our  Lady of Peace Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hazleton.

He was an Army Veteran. George and his wife Ida started their dream of running a pizza and Italian restaurant in 1986 which they named Georgio’s.  Through the hard work of George and his wife Ida, this year they are celebrating the 40th year anniversary of being in business. He also did all of his own work maintaining and repairing all of his rental apartments, and in his younger days, he was also a professional roller-skater.  George always cared for his workers and anyone that needed any help. If there was something he was able to do he would always help someone out. George and his wife Ida, and their son also helped raise their daughter’s quadruplets.  He will be greatly missed by his favorite great grandchildren John Junior and Luciano.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Ida DiBlasi; daughter Lisa Hoffman; son George Bakos; grandchildren Jessica (Hoffman) Fox, and Tonya, Frankie, and John Hoffman; great grandchildren John and Luciano Hoffman; sister Anna Gray; brothers Edwin Bakos and Quentin Black; and several nieces and nephews.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 14th, at 10 A.M. in Our Lady of Peace Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Drums. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 13th, in the Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St, Hazleton from 5-8 P.M.
