Verna Marsit

March 1, 2019

Verna (Hrino) Marsit, formerly of Hazleton and currently living in North Las Vegas, NV passed away Friday at home with her loving family by her side. She celebrated her 99th birthday on February 23.

Born in Stockton, PA she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Kaschak) Hrino.  She was the former owner of the Alterette Restaurant with her late husband Joseph.  Verna was very fortunate to live out her remaining years with her loving daughter, Mildred, in Las Vegas.  She was an avid bingo player and loved to play her favorite slot machine at the Aliante Casino where she also met many loving people who were extremely kind and helpful to her. She referred to going to the casino as "her therapy".

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband Joseph of 58 years at the time of his death in 1995; infant daughter Mary; son-in-law Patrick DeLorenzo, Sr., brothers Michael, George, and Joseph  and sisters Anna, Mary, Margaret, Helen, and Betty.

Surviving are her daughter Mildred DeLorenzo, N. Las Vegas, NV; son Carmen Marsit and his wife Patricia, Sun City West, AZ; grandsons Patrick DeLorenzo, granddaughter Rosemary Ondeck and Joseph, Carmen, and Matthew Marsit; 5 great grandchildren Courtney and Cassondra Ondeck; Joseph, Ally Lynn and Hinata Marsit, sister Agnes, CT; and many nieces and nephews.

She had strong faith and the most loving and generous heart and a very special way of caring. We are fortunate to have memories to cherish of a remarkable woman. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 12th, at 10 A.M. in Most Precious Blood Church, Hazleton.  Burial will be in Most Precious Blood Cemetery.  Those attending should go directly to the church on Tuesday morning.  Friends may call at the Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, on Monday from 6-8 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s own choice.
