Mary Louise Wright, 89, long-time resident of Conyngham, died Monday, March 19, 2018 in Newport News, Virginia, where she has lived since 2014. She was the wife of former Hazleton businessman, John H. Wright, Jr.

Born in Beaver Meadows on January 8, 1929, Mary Louise was the daughter of the late Garrett and Mary (Trezise) Boone. A 1946 graduate of Hazleton High School, she went on to pursue a career in nursing. After graduating from Philadelphia’s Presbyterian School of Nursing in 1949, she worked many years as an R.N. at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Hazleton and as a private duty nurse. She met her husband at Penn Lake, where both families had cottages.

In addition to John, her husband of 61 years, she is survived by daughters Barbara Ferrara and her husband Drew, Chesterfield, Virginia, Nancy Greenshields and her husband Matt, Henrico, Virginia and Amy MacAdam and her husband David, Newport News, Virginia, as well as nine grandchildren: Nancy Lattimer, John Greenshields (Kelly), Laura Lattimer, Kimberly Greenshields, Robert Lattimer, Kathryn MacAdam, Julia Lattimer, Elizabeth MacAdam and Michael Greenshields. She is also survived by her sister Edith Dunlap and her husband Richard, of Medford, New Jersey.

Mary Louise was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Conyngham, and was active in civic, historical, and social organizations. She was a member of the Moses VanCampen chapter (Berwick) of the Daughters of the American Revolution since 1962, which later merged with the Fort McClure chapter (Bloomsburg). She was a member of the Valley Country Club, Conyngham, and Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club, Jupiter, Florida. Mary Louise was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge, reading, traveling, and her pugs.

Visitation will be held at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Conyngham this Saturday, March 24th, from 10 – 11 a.m., followed by a service at the church at 11, then interment at Mountain View Cemetery in West Hazleton. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary Louise’s name be made to the Luzerne County SPCA.

The Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, is in charge of the arrangements.
