Marie “Tootsie” Gaudio

Marie “Tootsie” Gaudio, 91, of Hazleton, went home to the Lord on Saturday at the St. Luke Pavilion, where she had been a guest for the past three months.  Born in Hazleton on December 28, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Mestock) Mitchell.

Tootsie was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hazleton, and was a member of the Christian Women’s Society.  She was a member of the Hazleton Owls Club and the Six County Fireman’s Ladies Auxillary.  Tootsie enjoyed playing BINGO and going to Atlantic City.  She also enjoyed going on bus trips to local casinos and to see many different shows, and going for lunch and spending time with all of her friends at John’s Family Restaurant.

She worked for many years at Gaudio Greenhouses which she was a co-owner of.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband John J. Gaudio on June 17, 2006; her brothers John, Peter, Michael, Joseph, and Charles Mitchell; and sisters Helen Witcofski, Anna Socha, and Margaret Potchney.

Surviving are her beloved children Carol A. Shemansky and her husband Thomas, Hazleton, and John “Ginzo” Gaudio Jr. and his companion Tami Kiddish, Hazleton; grandson Thomas S. Shemansky and his wife Linda, Hazleton; and great-granddaughter Lauren Shemansky, who brought so much joy into her life.  Also surviving are her brother Thomas, Hazle Twp.; sisters-in-law Catherine Mitchell and Margaret Mitchell; and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 10th, at 9 A.M. from the Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. in Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace.  Burial will be in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 P.M.
