Francis D. Skawinski, 68, of Drums, passed away Friday at the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton.  Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Cecelia (Marnell) Skawinski and was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hazleton.

Frank was a Sgt. E-5 and received the Army Commendation Medal while serving in the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam for meritorious service as a combat courier in Company A, 121st Signal Battalion of the division.  In addition, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Air Medal.  

Frank worked many years as a heavy equipment operator and also received his private pilot's license. He loved flying, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.  Frank was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, the former Anna Zola; daughter Michelle Chyko and her husband Grant, Drums; son Brian Skawinski, Drums; granddaughters Haylie and Olivia Chyko; brother Joseph Skawinski and his wife Phyllis, NY; sisters Catherine Sochka, Minersville, and Patricia Pahler, Hazleton; and several nieces and nephew.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 1st, at 10 A.M. in Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church.  Burial will held at the convenience of the family. 

The Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, is in charge of the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Disabled Veterans, www.dav.org.
