Albert C. Mercantino, 89, of Hazleton, passed away Sunday at his home after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Assunta (Salvaterra) Mercantino and was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hazleton.

He was a Navy Veteran.  He retired as an installer for Service Electric where he was employed for many years.  He loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and would decorate his home with many lights and holiday decorations, so much so, that he won best decorated and people looked forward to seeing it every year.  His garden was another passion where he prided himself in his vegetables especially his garlic and peppers, and had many friends that would gather there.  His love for life and people were boundless.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, the former Elizabeth Pauline; daughter Janet Stish and her husband Edward, West Hazleton, and Gina Corazza and her husband Peter D., Sugarloaf; grandchildren Eddie and Jessica Stish, and Ian and Jade Corazza.  His family was the love of his life.  Nieces, nephews, brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, cousins and many close friends also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 6th, at 9:30 A.M. in Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace church.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.   The family will receive friends on Thursday at the Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, from 6-8 P.M.
